Reasons to get your conveyor belt checked before purchasing

When you have a jam-packed schedule with a hectic day then there is a high chance that common belt conveyor problems may go unnoticed as you don’t find time to pay attention to it and you aren’t really looking for them. But a quick scan may be on the weekends would reveal a lot of problems going on to get fixed. Let’s look at the most common conveyor belt challenges people have to face in everyday lives with just a general inspection and how to fix them within a short span of time

Belt dislocation and damaging

Mainly this problem is caused due to unskiving of the belt i.e., the top of the belt is generally not tapered to the joint which can cause damage to the belt in the long run. Aligning the belt with the fasteners before connecting the joints would save your belt from damaging. Make sure to read the instruction manual carefully before fastening the belt to save yourself some time and effort.

Belt splice failure

When the transition distance is uneven, and belt is not the accurate size then it causes strain on the belt as well as the joint which can lead to premature connector failure. Whenever you purchase anything with a belt make sure to check it before purchasing that can save you from a lot of mess later on. Verify the transition distance to be according to CEMA standards which recommends a distance of 4.0 x of the belt width.

Belt tearing behind the joint

This particular problem can be caused due to the uneven size of the pulley and the fastener. Sometimes too large fasteners are attached to the smallest pulley which can lead to tearing of the belt from behind the splice. The most obvious and convenient solution is always check and match the size of the pulley with the fastener before buying, this will save you from a lot of hassle later on.

Slippery belt

One problem that often occurs is the slipping of the belt and this problem is also caused due to the size difference of the fastener and the pulley. When the fastener is large, but the belt pulley is small it will keep slipping of the splice and could not be able to fasten efficiently ultimately making your conveyor belt fasteners useless and inefficient in the longer run.

Poor splice life

If you don’t purchase the accurate size of the belt, then it will be useless in a very less amount of time. In order to save yourself from this issue in the future measure the belt properly with the tools involving the scale that marks the centre of the belt from 3 to 5-foot intervals up to 20 feet from the connector. Then draw a centre line according to the markings then draw a perpendicular line across its width. Belt cutter is the appropriate tool to be used for a safe and neat cut.

Now look at some of the advantages of in-place conveyor belt cleaners.

In today’s day and age, it’s not really difficult to clean the conveyor belts with cleaning devices which are indispensable in almost every conveyor installation. This reduced the number of hiring to clean the belts hence it helps reducing the overall cost in the maintenance of these belts. The belt cleaning technology is improved a lot over the years resulting in enhanced efficiency and overall productivity. Over the time with excessive load over the years a huge amount of dirt accumulates everywhere on the conveyor belts which can be a massive task to clean afterwards.
